Dr. Asifa Shafi is an experienced optometrist and vision science researcher specializing in comprehensive eye care, pediatric and geriatric optometry, diabetic eye exams, glaucoma management, and specialty contact lenses. She became the owner of Peepers in 2023, where she is committed to delivering patient-centered, high-quality vision care. She has also worked extensively with autistic children and adults with disabilities, providing compassionate, individualized care.
Dr. Shafi brings a broad and diverse clinical background to her practice. Her professional experience includes positions at Wal-Mart Vision Centers (Towson and Hunt Valley), Dankner and Fiergang Eye Associates, Baltimore Washington Eye Associates, Eyes on Main, and the University of Maryland Eye Associates.
Originally from New York, Dr. Shafi graduated with honors from Stony Brook University before earning her Doctor of Optometry from the SUNY College of Optometry. She completed a residency in Hospital Care Medicine at the Baltimore and Perry Point VA Medical Centers and later earned her Master’s in Vision Science. Her glaucoma research—published in Optometry and Vision Science—earned the Dean Yager Award.
Fluent in Urdu, Dr. Shafi enjoys spending time with her family and community, riding her bike, taking long walks, cheering on the Baltimore Ravens, and visiting local farmers’ markets.
